Central Pattana Public Company Limited wanted to create an iconic landmark, with the main idea to design an innovative structure that would be both locally and internationally recognized.

The highway, which is the main thoroughfare to northeast Thailand, overlooks the site making the structure visible from many directions. The building is a gateway to downtown Khon Kaen which clearly stands out from the surrounding area.

The unique design was inspired by Khon Kaen’s local identity and distinct lifestyle, with local silk patterns featured on the facade of the building. Steel acts as a structure’s second skin and is the main support used to hold up the facade of the main building. Basketry was incorporated since it is a craft that can be found throughout the city. The horizontal weaving of the structure mimics Thailand’s famous wickerwork and emphasizes the front part of the building at the corner of the street visible from the highway.

Perforated steel sheets were installed on top of the steel frame on the curved form giving the structure a lightweight feel. These perforated steel sheets are illuminated with colorful LED lights at night, creating a captivating facade. This façade lighting can be designed specifically for various occasions, such as Valentine Day or Chinese New Year, giving the building a sense of movement and creates a dynamic experience from a distance.
