KING POWER PHUKETRETAILEXPANSION

In 2015, King Power expanded their Phuket complex with a new building to house the Ramayana Restaurant, situated on a triangular plot adjacent to a natural reservoir to the north. The plot's irregular shape, with its longest edge curving along the main road, inspired a form that blends oval and triangular geometries to make the most of the land. Visible from the northern approach without obstruction, the four-storey building with its sweeping curved frontage was designed to become a striking new landmark, creating a fresh first impression while drawing the eye naturally toward the entrance of the original complex.

The double-skin façade reinterprets elements from the first phase, such as the perforated metal panels that are re-angled on their steel frame, producing a different play of light and shadow across the day. Alternating silver and gold sheets add a sense of richness and sophistication. This continues the original design concept rooted in Phuket's historical name, Maneekram, meaning jewel, as the architecture draws its identity from the flash of sunlight on a gemstone and the glimmer of the Andaman Sea.

At the far corner facing the reservoir, floor-to-ceiling openings frame sweeping views of the landscape, while a canopy fitted with horizontal shading panels controls glare and heat without compromising the outlook.

King Power Phuket is designed not only as a commercial destination, but as a source of pride for the local community and a contribution to Phuket's thriving tourism economy.
