“Shadow Puppets” are a traditional art native to Southern Thailand. Puppeteers are skilled at weaving illusion and sound through shadow play to create a story that thills the audience. These stories reflect the southern way of life.

Nakhon Si Thammarat is the home of Suchart Subsin, Thailand’s Living National Treasure in the art of traditional performances, as well as a museum dedicated to his Shadow Puppetry and efforts to transmit these skills to future generations.

Drawing inspiration from this local artform, Central Plaza Nakhon Si Thammarat utilized the play of light and shadow to express the unique character of the town. The façade’s 2nd skin is likened to the shadow puppets, casting shapes onto the building exterior as if telling a story. This façade was also designed in sections, conveying different rhythms through shifting shadows, which can be seen differently when viewed from various angles. At nighttime LED lights add colour to these shapes and shadow play.

This animated building offers different and interesting experiences both by day and by night.
