KING POWER COMPLEX (DUTY - FREE MALL RENOVATION)

King Power’s 25th Anniversary was seen as a good opportunity to carry out extensive renovation of their 10-year-old King Power Complex at Rangnam Road.

With the aim to upgrade its services and add a luxurious touch to the design in order to better cater to their clientele, the renovation entailed the expansion of duty-free retail areas on the 1st and 3rd floors to accommodate more international brand names, as well as a food court that would gather celebrated restaurants together under one roof. Other changes included new store layouts and interior circulation routes, a complete redesign of the interior, as well as modifications to the exterior facade of the Crown Atrium and all the entrances.

For the landscaping, the existing fountain was replaced by a new performing fountain plaza with a system that can create a water spire up to 6 meters high and, when required, can be converted into a multipurpose space for hosting various events and activities.

The Crown Atrium, a symbolic element of the King Power Complex at Rangnam Road, was redesigned to express King Power’s determination to raise the level of their services as they enter a new decade. The concept for the cladding of the Crown Atrium derived from the faceted forms of crown jewels; the angular shapes reflect the sunlight differently at different times of the day, creating a memorable shimmering image that signifies King Power as a leading company in the duty-free industry. Beneath that are rhomboid louvers that complement the shape and form of the external cladding and offer protection against direct sunlight, helping to reduce glare and energy consumption.

The entrances are refurbished with metallic materials in lustrous gold and silver around the doorways, while the forms and colors of the patterns on the ceilings derive from traditional Thai gold and silverware. These simplified patterns were also used to create the identities for other duty-free outlets at Srivaree, Pattaya and Phuket, thus creating an overarching brand image that can be immediately recognized as the mark of quality products and services offered by a world-class Thai duty-free company.
