BAAN CHANG NAG

Baan Chang Nag is a weekend holiday house in the Mae Rim District of Chiang Mai. The house has been designed to incorporate element of the traditional Chiang Mai style in its layout and the overall architectural form. Although the interior plan appears to follow modern lines, the decoration and use of materials have made extensive use of traditional local products. Baan Chang Nag is a one-bedroom house of modest proportions. The owner has renovated two small rice barns behind it. These, almost a hundred years old and rebuilt by the owner, have been adapted into guest quarters while retaining, as much as possible, their traditional Thai style, including a high elevated wooden structure. The placement of the three buildings also corresponds with traditional Thai village plans, which feature several buildings grouped around a common multipurpose area. A lotus pond occupies the heart of the compound and helps make the house a lush verdant oasis throughout the whole year.
