Beyond the Jatumharachiga Heaven, a realm called the
Tavatimsa Heaven can be found. It is the highest of the heavenly realms and is
said to cover an area equal to 40,000 km2 surrounded by a continuous
glass wall that stretches 64 km into the sky. This realm consists of 1,000
doors, each leading to a splendid castle situated on the mountain top. As the
door slides apart, an exquisite melody resounds throughout. A pool of
crystal-clear water is located some distance away, overflowing on to the
ornamental stones bounding the pool. Garden benches provide a comfortable area
for angels to enjoy their time and fulfil their pleasures. The most prominent
castle of the Tavatimsa heaven is known as Paichayon Maha Prasat. Made of 7
types of precious gems, soaring 4000 km up into the upper atmosphere and
enclosed by walls of the same, nothing is comparable to the beauty of this
place.
These mythical
descriptions inspired the design concept determining the planning layout as well as the forms of the
buildings. Supplementary to the existing old building, elements such as
engraved walls were integrated into the design. Besides casting stimulating
light and shadows during the course of the day, these pattern-engraved walls also
control the direction of circulation, at the same time delivering an intriguing
approach to the entrance. As the sun’s rays percolate through the clear waters
of the sparkling white pool, its colours merge with the emerald surface of the
ocean in the background. Preserving the existing structure of the traditional
Thai roof, meticulous alterations were made to the original building,
incorporating a white colour scheme and glass walls to achieve a light, airy
atmosphere as though the buildings are hovering above the heavens.
