Chiva-Som is a world-renowned health resort and spa in Hua Hin, on the Gulf of Thailand coast, approximately two hours south of Bangkok. This second property, Chiva-Som Health Resort, is set in a lush, pristine valley in Khao Kho, Phetchabun Province in lower northern Thailand. Seeking a contrast to the original coastal setting, the owner chose this mountain location for its verdant natural beauty, envisioning a resort rooted in the architectural traditions of northern Thailand's Lanna culture.

A hilly site presented considerable construction challenges, addressed by raising the buildings on stilts with open space beneath. Beyond embodying the Lanna aesthetic, this approach offered the flexibility needed to navigate the slopes while minimising environmental impact. Lanna-style roofs keep the structures compact, reducing obstruction of the scenic views enjoyed by neighbouring buildings. Much like an authentic Lanna village, each building follows the natural contour of the land. This layout places a premium privacy and ensures every guest enjoys the fullest possible view of the surrounding landscape.
