Chiang
Mai University sought to renovate its central stadium, expanding capacity to
5,000 seats to accommodate a wide range of future activities. The design was
guided by three core ambitions: expressing the university’s iconic identity, achieving
efficient practicality, and creating spaces that bring people together to foster
unity.
Flame
of the Forest, the university's official flower and the provincial flower of
Chiang Mai, served as the primary source of inspiration for the stadium's
identity. Its form is reflected throughout the design, from decorative wall
panels and sunshading screens to the colour palette and the sweeping curves of
the roof. The gradient of the seating tiers has been carefully calculated in
relation to the playing field and lighting conditions, ensuring optimal
sightlines and operational efficiency. Surrounding plazas and landscaped areas
are designed to accommodate a broad range of activities beyond sport itself.
More
than a functional venue for the community, this stadium is conceived as a
landmark and a gathering point, a source of pride and a symbol of unity for the
population of Chiang Mai University.
