Specialized dental care matters most to the people who need extra attention, such as elderly patients, people with physical disabilities, and patients with psychiatric conditions. With them in mind, the Faculty of Dentistry at Chiang Mai University set out to build a Dental Hospital for the Disadvantaged, a place that serves the local community and cares for these patients in particular. Universal design sits at the heart of the project. Everyone should be able to reach every part of the building easily and safely, whether they use a wheelchair or live with another kind of physical disability.

The building is more than a place for treatment. It is also the new front door of the Faculty of Dentistry. The faculty grounds hold many buildings, and first-time visitors can easily feel lost. So the entrance was made wide, open, and easy to spot, revealing a green courtyard shaded by grand old rain trees. This welcoming space gently draws people in toward the reception area, where they can ask for directions or information before going on their way with confidence.

On the outside, horizontal lines wrap around the building and echo the character of the modern-era buildings nearby. The new hospital sits modestly among its neighbors, yet it has a personality of its own, shaped by thoughtful details and contemporary materials.

Inside, the 6 floors are laid out so that patients can find their way and move around with ease. The ground floor is where every visit begins, with triage, patient registration, the cashier, and the pharmacy. The 2nd floor holds the faculty meeting room and the Advanced General Dentistry clinic. The 3rd floor brings together Periodontology, Orthodontics, and the Surgical Clinic. The 4th floor is home to the specialist clinics for Maxillofacial Dentistry, Special Needs Dentistry, and Community Dentistry. Operating rooms and the inpatient ward are on the 5th floor, and the Pediatric Dentistry clinic is on the 6th. The basement provides parking for faculty staff.

The hospital brings together caring healthcare, design that welcomes everyone, and respect for its surroundings. It gives the Faculty of Dentistry a new and warmer face, and it gives vulnerable patients a place where they feel cared for from the moment they arrive.
